Lesson 27
THE SWALLOW AND THE CROW
The Swallow and the Crow
Once upon a time, in a forest, there lived a Swallow and a Crow. One sunny day, they began talking about their feathers.
The Swallow felt very proud and said to the Crow, “Look at my feathers! They are shiny and soft, like the blue sky and as light as the wind. Your feathers are dark and rough. They are not as pretty as mine. You should take good care of yourself, my friend!”
The Crow looked at his black feathers, strong and durable, and said, “Your feathers may look beautiful in the spring, but I never see you in the winter. Winter is when I am happiest, and my feathers keep me safe.”
After that, the Crow spread his strong, black wings and flew away, leaving the Swallow to think about what he had said.
Moral
It is better to have lasting strength and usefulness than to boast about things that only look good for a short while.
A friend in need is a friend indeed.
