有一天，一個會吹長笛的漁夫帶著笛子和漁網來到海邊，他站在一塊突出海面的岩石上，開始吹奏曲子，希望用笛聲引誘魚兒跳出海面。漁夫彈奏了一會兒，沒有一條魚出來。最後，他把長笛放到一邊，撒網入海，卻撈起滿網的魚。當漁夫把網拖上岸後，看見魚兒在岸邊不停地跳躍，他便說：“你們這些淘氣鬼！我吹笛子時，你們不肯跳；現在我不吹了，你們卻在這裡活蹦亂跳！”

　　吹笛子的漁夫這篇寓言故事告訴了我們：現實生活中，並不是每個人都像漁夫那樣聰明。如果他一直在那裡吹笛子，這當然是他所擅長的，願望也是美好的，但是，他本來是想要抓魚的，魚不入網，不光是會很鬱悶，甚至可能餓死；漁夫還是可愛的，他自始至終都帶著強烈的主觀願望來理解他所看到的世界，把魚的掙扎看作是跳舞。

THE FISHERMAN PIPING
　　A Fisherman who could play the flute went down one day to the sea-shore with his nets and his flute; and, taking his stand on a projecting rock, began to play a tune, thinking that the music would bring the fish jumping out of the sea. He went on playing for some time, but not a fish appeared: so at last he threw down his fl ute and cast his net into the sea, and made a great haul of fi sh. When they were landed and he saw them leaping about on the shore, he cried,“You rascals! you wouldn’t dance when I piped: but now I’ve stopped,you can do nothing else!”
