Lesson 46

THE ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER

On a warm spring day in winter, the ants are busy drying the food they have stored. The grain was already very wet due to the prolonged rain. At this time, a grasshopper came and begged them for some food. "Because," said the grasshopper, "I'm really starving." The ants stopped what they were doing, albeit a little against principle. "Can we ask you a question?" they said. "What have you been doing all summer? Why don't you stock up on some grain for winter?" "Actually," replied the grasshopper, "I've been busy singing, there’s no time to store food." "If you've been singing all summer," replied the ants, "then you'd better get busy dancing in winter." They laughed and went on with their work.

【The story of the ant and the grasshopper】

There are several versions of Aesop's fable about the ant and the grasshopper. The one provided by New Dream belongs to the original translation. It mainly says that we should always think about the future and tomorrow, and not just focus on having fun. When we work, we work and play. time to play.
