STEP 1
Debate Class
STEP 1: Receive approval for the student (typically 8-15 years of age) to register for classes by first contracting me through FB, LINE, or WeChat or emailing me at chinesedebateint@gmail.com .
-
Please put the name of your child in the subject line of your email.
-
Send me a picture of a Chinese text that the student can comfortably read, be it storybooks, comics, newspapers, textbooks, magazines, novels, etc.
-
Attach a 30-second audio recording of the student reading such a text. Please practice some prior to recording.
-
Your Facebook (most preferred), LINE, or WeChat (least preferred) unique account ID for quicker follow-up and communication.
Our program is a Chinese debate class and is NOT for beginner Chinese learners. Even our beginner debate classes are geared toward children with fairly fluent colloquial Chinese. In terms of ILR level equivalent for kids, I would say this would be ILR level 3 or professional working proficiency for their age, in terms of speaking and reading proficiency. My best guess is that a minority of kids from Chinese heritage family reach ILR level 3.
第一步:辯論課新學生的基本條件是,中文家常話還算流利。除非學生在中國或台灣有讀完小學五年級,我請有興趣參加的學生寄給我以下的檔案給我鑑定 ,看教練的課程是否合適。我的信箱是 chinesedebateint@gmail.com.
-
Email

Read Aloud Class
STEP 1: Receive approval for the student to register for classes by first contracting me through FB, LINE, or WeChat or emailing me at chinesedebateint@gmail.com .
1. Please have your child ( typically 7 to 9 years old) practice reading aloud to fluency on Aesop's Fable "The Fox and the Grape). This may take 10 minutes or it may take 30 minutes every day three days in a row. Towards the bottom of the page, there is a recording and downloadable file with both traditional and simplified text for parents to add phonetics if needed.
2. Record one read-aloud of the read-aloud
3. Send me the audio recording. This will allow the instructor to know how to place your child. We have four levels of read-aloud students.
Screening: Please message me on FB and email me a recording of your child reading the above sentence. Please first have your child practice reading it a few times. I will let you know if our classes are suitable for your child and, if so, the “read-aloud-class-level” I assign your child. After approval, I will work out a class time for your child.
-
We switch students throughout the year to different classes depending on their proficiency and preference, space permitting. Students can switch to debate classes as well. We start new classes all the time to accommodate the needs of the students and parents.

-
I will send you a login email to Tutorbird.com, our class scheduling and online resource folder software, where you may find Zoom link and additional course material if any.
-
Please review the fee page. There is no class the week of Thanksgiving (11/23-29/20) and Sunday 12/20/20 is the last day of class.

I have a very small team and it took a lot of our time to get these up and running in just a couple of months. This operation exists solely since we believe it can really benefit the children and the parents and want to raise the bar on how Chinese is taught here as a whole. We will continue to work on improving this operation.
