從前，有一個神射手到山裡去尋找獵物，森林裡的野獸一見到他，全都逃得無影無蹤，只有高傲的獅子依然待在原地，向他發出挑戰。然而，射手朝獅子射出一箭，說：“這只是給你報個信，你等著吧，看看我怎麽收拾你。”獅子感覺到箭傷的疼痛後，快速逃走了。一隻在旁觀看的狐狸對獅子說：“別做懦夫呀，為什麽你不待在原地，展示一下你的鬥志呢？”可是獅子卻回答說：“你可不能讓我冒死呀，顯示鬥志的又不是你。為什麼要跑，他射過來的一支箭都這麽厲害，他本人肯定也不是一個好對付的傢伙。”

　　要善於借助外物去攻擊那些不便直接攻擊的強大敵人，要對那些從遠處就具殺傷力的人敬而遠之。

The Archer and the Lion
 

Once upon a time, there was a skilled archer who went into the mountains in search of prey. As soon as the animals in the forest saw him, they all fled without a trace—except for a proud lion who stayed where he was and challenged the archer.
 

The archer shot an arrow at the lion and said, “That’s just a warning shot. Wait and see how I’ll deal with you next.”

Feeling the pain of the wound, the lion quickly ran away.

A fox who had been watching nearby said to the lion, “Don’t be a coward! Why didn’t you stay and show your fighting spirit?”

But the lion replied, “I’m not about to risk my life. You’re not the one who would have to face him. If just one of his arrows hurts this much, imagine how dangerous the man himself must be.”

The Moral

Sometimes it’s smart to use tools or other things to deal with powerful enemies you can’t fight directly. It also reminds us to keep a respectful distance from those who can cause harm even from afar.
