THE PARROT AND THE CAT

THE PARROT AND THE CAT

Once upon a time, there was a man who bought a parrot and let it live freely in his house. The parrot was overjoyed and happily flew up to the mantelpiece, crying out loudly. A cat was sleeping on the rug in front of the fireplace, and the parrot’s noise disturbed her. Looking at this new intruder, the cat asked, “Who are you, and where did you come from?”

The parrot replied, “Your master just bought me and brought me to this house.”

“You rude and impolite creature,” said the cat, “how can you be so noisy right after arriving here? I was born in this house and have always lived here. Yet even so, if I dare to meow a few times, the master will throw things at me and chase me away.”

The parrot replied, “Hey, you’d better shut your mouth. My voice is sweet and pleasant — they all love it. But your voice is nothing but noise.”
